Jake Brigance, the protagonist of A Time to Kill, John Grisham’s classic legal thriller is back. This time he’s at the epicenter of a sensational murder trial that bitterly divides the citizens of Clanton, Mississippi.
Watch for an announcement about a virtual discussion with John Grisham and Burke’s Corey Mesler, to be broadcast just before the release day.
HOLIDAY SHOPPING MADE EASY (AND SAFE!) This holiday season will look different in lots of ways. In an effort to make your shopping as safe as possible we will continue to offer curbside pickup, delivery and low cost shipping. And as always gift wrap is free!
We are encouraging everyone to start the holiday shopping early. Shopping early is important this year due to the high demand for books, the potential for supply chain disruptions and delayed inventory shipments, and the need to help bookstores and other small businesses make it through the end of the year.
We will be offering after hours appointments beginning in November. You will be able to shop alone or with friends at a designated time with the undivided attention of one of our staff. More information on this to come.
Art & Soul: Poems and Paintings by Burton Callicott Prayers and Meditations by Burton Carley
Burton Callicott (1907-2003) was a renowned and much beloved Memphis artist. At the age of 90 he suddenly began to write poetry. Burton Carley is a retired Memphis minister of the Universalist Unitarian Church of the River, of which Burton Callicott was a member for nearly 70 years. When the elder Burton was no longer able to make it to church, the younger Burton mailed him his sermons and the elder reciprocated by sharing his poems. The two Burtons discussed publishing their literary works together, but the elder Burton died before they could realize their intention. Burton Callicott’s son Baird learned of this plan soon after he retired and moved back to Memphis. He decided to pair his father’s poems with images of his father’s paintings and Burton Carley wrote fresh prayers and meditations to complement the poems and paintings. The Callicott poems and paintings and the Carley prayers and meditations form the core of the book, all enriched by Callicott’s calligraphy.
