2nd Annual Mighty Roots Music Festival

New Talent Additions / Poster Design Unveiled / Call for Volunteers

STOVALL, MS., August 14, 2022 Mississippi’s newest and fastest growing Americana Festival, The Mighty Roots Music Festival, returns for a second year of live music, camping and revelry at historic Stovall Farm on Friday and Saturday September 23-24, 2022.

The festival unveiled its 2022 poster design, once again masterfully crafted by Clarksdale artist Devin Liston, at the Stovall Store on Saturday August 14.

“Devin gets the whole design idea of the festival; in fact, he been an integral part of developing that design,” stated Mighty Roots founder Howard Stovall. “In not only our poster and t-shirt designs, but also in the major mural project we accomplished in 2021, Devin has been a huge part of how our event looks and feels.”

The festival will feature Liston’s art in the expected array of festival merchandise with one special addition, a series of hand painted shirts using Liston’s design that will be offered in limited quantity. The shirts, created by Memphis artist Nikki Shroeder, have been featured at art festivals are the region and will make their Mississippi debut at Mighty Roots.

The festival recently announced two additions to its lineup.  Nashville-based alternative southern rock band The Vegabonds will play immediately prior to Saturday headliner Jamestown Revival, rounding out a day of music that includes Jimbo Mathus and Creatures of the Southern Wild, Robert Ellis, Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe, and Alice Hasen and the Blaze. “We looked for a long time for the perfect match for our headliners,” stated Stovall. “We passed on a lot of great acts, and when we talked to the Vegabonds, we knew we had the perfect final piece of the Saturday main stage.”

The festival also announced the addition on the late night stage of “the most impressive one-man band you will ever see”, Cam Cole. Perhaps best known for his star turn on Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso” as the singer who saves the team party,” Cole is a singer, songwriter, busker and new age traveler from London, UK who roams around performing on streets and venues as his one man band show influenced by Folk, Delta Blues, Grunge and Rock N’ Roll. “He’s a bit of everything, which is a perfect match for Mighty Roots,” adds Stovall.

Also appearing on the late-night stage are Delta blues men Luscious Spiller on Friday and Terry “Big T” Williams on Saturday. The late-night stage will stay rocking until 2AM, at which time the action will move inside the Stovall Store with Mississippi singer-songwriter Trey Gardo until everyone decides to call it a night.  (The site has a 24-hour bar license.)

Friday’s lineup on the Visit Clarksdale Main Stage includes Mystic Bowie’s Talking Dreads, Daniel Donato, Few Miles South and Jonathan Ruhl.

On Saturday at midnight the festival will continue its tradition of burning a wooden guitar in effigy to signal the official end of another Mighty Roots Festival. “It’s our Delta version of Burning Man,” adds Stovall.

The festival has again partnered with Delta Council, an area economic development organization representing the 19 Delta and part-Delta counties of Northwest Mississippi. Delta Council will bring its Young Delta group of farmers and agribusiness stakeholders to an educational and social gathering at Mighty Roots on Friday night. Celebrating area agribusiness is a unique facet of Mighty Roots and fundamental to the event.

Contributing to the immersive experience of the festival, campsites and RV sites are also available. The historic gin building will be open as a VIP area.  Food truck concessions will be anchored by the Doe’s Eat Place truck from Greenville, Mississippi and the Lost Pizza truck from Cleveland, Mississippi.

The festival is putting together its team of volunteers for 2022. Volunteers work a half-day shift in exchange for a festival t-shirt and a free weekend GA ticket to the festival. Anyone interested in volunteering should reach out to the festival at info@mightyrootsmusicfestival.com and state which day and whether early or late shift. The festival also needs a limited number of volunteers on the Wednesday and Thursday prior to the festival.
