This Saturday at GPAC: Marcella Simien to join her father Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience on main stage

Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC) is excited to announce the upcoming concert of Grammy-winning Zydeco artist Terrance Simien. Leading his Zydeco Experience bandmates, Simien will perform in the Duncan-Williams Performance Hall on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the GPAC website or by calling the box office at (901)751-7500.

An 8th generation Louisiana Creole, Simien has been shattering the myths about what his indigenous Zydeco roots music is, and is not, for 40 years. He leads a massively skilled Zydeco Experience band with long-time member and creative collaborator Danny Williams on keyboards, bassist Stan Chambers, Ian Molinaro-Thompson on drums, trombonist Revon Andrews, and saxophonist Orlando Gilbert. The band has performed over 9,000 concerts and toured millions of miles to over 45 countries to share their love of Zydeco.

Joining Simien for this special show is his daughter Marcella Simien. A talented artist in her own right, Marcella Simien has a strong Memphis connection as a graduate of Memphis College of Art. She founded and serves as bandleader in Marcella & Her Lovers, a hybrid of classic Memphis soul with the freewheeling swagger of New Orleans funk.

“Zydeco is American roots music that is exhilarating, complex, and diverse,” said Paul Chandler, Executive Director of GPAC. “We are excited to welcome these respected and accomplished Zydeco artists to GPAC.”
