Today I need good

By Candace Echols

I am so tired,
So tired of the tough,
So tired of reading about all the world’s stuff.
Today I need good,
I need fun and delicious,
blue skies and train rides and hugs and sweet kisses.
So I’ll write for me,
but maybe you too,
I’m probably not the only one who is blue.
This little verse
is the view from my seat.
I’m looking for happy on this very street.
Where I now sit,
I’m surrounded by snow,
with a latte, a heater, and a guy on banjo.
Live music is magic!
It tickles my ears,
it makes my soul cheerful and brings happy tears.
The children are skiing,
they’re flying on white,
they’ll regale me with stories deep into the night.
A little red flower
peeps out of the ground
nodding springtime and sunshine and hope that’s been found.
Today I need good,
I need fun and delight,
I need picnicking, racing, and days flying kites.
A little brown puppy
just bounced happy by,
she made me giggle and so I waved a Hi!
Littles are dressed
in yellow like day,
the colors are fresher than deep winter gray.
A girl and a guy,
high up on a lift,
they snuggle and cuddle and know it’s a gift.
It’s late afternoon
and the grilling’s commenced.
The burgers and peppers and steaks are intense.
People relaxed,
kicked back by the fire,
outside all day is the best kind of tired.
It’s time to quit,
but just on the page.
I’ll keep looking for good in a world filled with rage.
Because I’m so tired,
So tired of the tough,
So tired of reading about all the world’s stuff.
Today I need good,
next week I will too,
When I look around, I might just see YOU!
