The Children’s Museum of Memphis Partners with Porter-Leath to Gift 1,500 Family Memberships Valued at $250,000 to Memphis Families
The Children’s Museum of Memphis, a nonprofit organization that focuses on children’s development through exhibits and programs designed to support early learning, announced a partnership with Porter-Leath, the 170-year-old educational and development resource for at-risk children and families in Memphis, to provide 1,500 family museum memberships to The Children’s Museum of Memphis to families enrolled in Porter-Leath’s Preschool Program. The gift of 1,500 family memberships is valued at $250,000.
“The Children’s Museum of Memphis has been a children’s developmental resource in Memphis for over 30 years and we are humbled that our sponsors and donors make it possible to partner with Porter-Leath to provide 1,500 complimentary family memberships to Porter-Leath Preschool families. We hope this donation and partnership exemplify our commitment to the Memphis community and the future of Memphis by offering a world-class learning experience to our neighbors who may not be able to afford a membership but could benefit tremendously from our exhibits and programs,” said Dr. Stewart Burgess, executive director, The Children’s Museum of Memphis.
Dr. Burgess made the announcement at an event Thursday night to celebrate the history and future of The Children’s Museum of Memphis that included the three female founders of the museum, Mars Child, Polly Glotzbach, and Harriet McFadden. “We are so appreciative and excited about this partnership with the Children’s Museum of Memphis to offer our Preschool Families complimentary memberships to the museum. We know this is going to help ignite a learning passion for our families and their children and help with the early childhood development that is so crucial for our children’s futures as well as the future of our community as a whole,” said Rob Hughes, vice president of development, Porter-Leath.
This partnership with Porter-Leath is one example of the effort of The Children’s Museum of Memphis to make a positive impact on the community by focusing on children’s development through exhibits and programs designed to support early learning and their core values. The Children’s Museum of Memphis core values are to be the intersection of play and hands-on learning, to make a positive impact on the community, to provide a positive family experience, to be a complement to classroom education, to be inclusive, to provide excellent customer service, to nurture appropriate partnerships in the community, and to follow the best practices of the children’s museum field.

Memphians Mars Child, Polly Glotzbach, and Harriet McFadden realized their dream as the efforts of five years of hard work paid off when The Children’s Museum of Memphis opened in 1990 in the old National Guard Armory complex.
